Abstract : This article aims to analyse how the migrants and the exiles — especially the Congreganists — have developed a French educative network abroad, a network which has both succeeded in exporting French culture and combined respect for the local people and the universality of critical thinking. This article explores 2 contradictory aspects of globalization. If this network — which is a legacy of the colonial era — serves the French economic and diplomatic interests — on a financial globalization level — one must bear in mind that it perpetuates both a tradition of excellence in terms of education and a worldwide pluralistic policy, open to cultural singularities and conveying cosmopolitan forces of opposition.
Keywords : globalization, AEFE, French Secular Mission (Mission laïque), French Alliance, foreign education, Congreganists, Protestants, Cosmopolitism, educational excellence, glocalization.
