<p><i> <strong>Résumé :</strong> </i> Les théories de l’orientation confèrent au choix une importance fondamentale. Pourtant, les choix opérés par les élèves et leurs parents ne sont souvent pas respectés dans les pratiques d’orientation. L’analyse de cet état de fait s’appuie sur la pratique d’orientation en fin de troisième, notamment vers l’enseignement technique et professionnel, en Côte d’Ivoire. Elle montre, entre autres, que le déséquilibre entre la demande globale d’orientation et l’offre de formation rend parfois dérisoire le choix exprimé par les élèves. Elle suggère d’autres approches susceptibles d’atténuer les contradictions du système d’orientation.<br class='autobr' />

<p><i> <strong>Abstract :</strong> </i> The education system gives a great importance to the choice of fields of study by students. However, the choice expressed by the students and their parents are often not taken into consideration during the process of «<small class="fine d-inline"> </small>dispatching<small class="fine d-inline"> </small>» students in different fields of study. The system has been analyzed based on the practice of «<small class="fine d-inline"> </small>dispatching<small class="fine d-inline"> </small>» students at the end of the last year in secondary school, partcularly the «<small class="fine d-inline"> </small>dispathing<small class="fine d-inline"> </small>» toward technical and vocational training school. The analyis indicates a gap between the demand for specific fields of study and the available capacity for training in those fields. In the process, the preferences expressed by students become meaningless. That suggests the need for other systems which will eventually reduce the gap.<br class='autobr' />
